The Baltimore Ravens had to resort to personal fouls in their attempt to slow down the Kansas City Chiefs before halftime in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon. After Kyle Van Noy was flagged for unnecessary roughness early in the last drive of the half, defensive lineman Travis Jones swiped Patrick Mahomes across his facemask as Kansas City drove downfield.

The dirty hit got the Chiefs 15 extra yards closer to the end zone, and ultimately put them in field goal range as they tried to score points before the halftime whistle. Commentators on the broadcast immediately recognized the illegal contact and seemed to be astonished by the sheer physicality of the play.
Fans exploded when a replay of the nasty hit was posted to social media channels, and many users took exception to Jones’ effort. Check out some of Twitter’s top reactions to the unfortunate play late in the second quarter:
Didn’t like the Van Noy call? Fine.

The Ravens don’t need to resort to actions like this to make a statement!!

And now Travis Jones gets a roughing the passer call. Hits Mahomes in the face. That was an obvious one.
