Randi Mahomes is celebrating her daughter-in-law’s latest photoshoot. At the NFL honors on Thursday, the mother of NFL star Patrick Mahomes shares exclusively with PEOPLE that she is in “awe” of his wife Brittany Mahomes after she made her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue debut. “I’ve seen all the pictures. I’ve seen all of that. I’m just in awe of her,” Randi, 48, tells PEOPLE.
The grandmother of two also shared how regimented Brittany, 28, treats her diet. “She’s so disciplined. I’ll eat with her, and I’m like ordering, you know… And she’s ordering very good, and I’m like, ‘Girl, I want to do what you’re doing.’ ”
Randi also shared that Brittany recently recruited her mother-in-law’s style tips on a recent shopping trip. Randi pulled out a dress for Brittany and was persistent about her daughter-in-law trying it on. After a back and forth, Brittany purchased the dress and wore it to the red carpet of Patrick’s Netflix show Quarterback last year. “I was like, ‘Okay, I love it.’ She looked gorgeous,” recalled Randi.
Early Thursday, Brittany made her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit debut as a 2024 Rookie. She will feature in the magazine’s 60th anniversary issue, out in May. Per MJ Day, SI Swim’s editor-in-chief, Brittany was selected because she’s the “epitome of a modern-day powerhouse.” Day adds in a statement: “Brittany’s journey has surpassed all expectations, inspiring others with her tenacity and unyielding determination.”
While the spread isn’t officially out yet, fans can expect to see the mom of two (Brittany shares daughter Sterling Skye, who turns 3 on Feb. 20, and son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 14 months with Patrick) modeling a collection of fiery swimsuits.
In a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot (captured by photographer Derek Kettela in San Pedro Ambergris Caye, Belize), Brittany models every swim look under the sun, from a frilly two-piece to a teeny bikini topped with a knitted cowboy hat, an homage to her Texas roots.
“I never in my wildest dreams thought this would happen,” Brittany told SI Swim of her new gig, which comes days before the Chiefs play against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11. The 2024 Super Bowl is set for Feb. 11 with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
