Newsom says Trump ‘deranged’ for deploying additional 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to LA

As violent protests continue to shake Los Angeles, California Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly lashed out at former President Donald Trump, accusing him of inflaming the crisis by sending in thousands of National Guard troops and active-duty Marines without state approval.

Speaking from the state capitol, Newsom did not mince words.

“This is not leadership—it’s provocation. The presence of federal troops is pouring gasoline on a fire that California is perfectly capable of handling through our own institutions, our own leadership, and our own community engagement.”

A Battle Over Control

The latest tension comes as Trump ordered the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to “restore order” in Los Angeles. This federal intervention was authorized without the governor’s consent, invoking Title 10 powers—a move that Newsom and legal experts warn may violate constitutional principles of state sovereignty.

Newsom emphasized:

“We did not request this. We do not welcome this. California will not be bullied into accepting martial tactics disguised as public safety.”

⚠️ Violence Escalates Across LA

As protesters continue to clash with law enforcement over immigration raids and federal involvement, the streets of Los Angeles have become a battleground:

  • Demonstrators blocked the 101 Freeway again Monday morning.
  • Skirmishes broke out near immigration detention centers.
  • Armored vehicles and military helicopters are now commonplace in major protest zones.

Newsom called the federal response “militarized theater,” accusing Trump of using California as a political punching bag to rally his base ahead of the election.

⚖️ Constitutional Questions Mount

The governor’s team is reportedly exploring legal action, potentially filing an injunction to halt federal military operations within state borders. Civil rights organizations are also weighing lawsuits, citing Fourth and Tenth Amendment violations.

Political analysts say this confrontation could spark a landmark federalism battle, with implications far beyond California.

Final Thoughts

What started as a localized protest against immigration enforcement has now exploded into a power struggle between state and federal authority. Governor Newsom’s fierce pushback marks a turning point in the crisis—one that could reshape not only how civil unrest is handled in the future, but also how much power the federal government can wield within individual states.
