Angel Reese vs. LSU head coach Kim Mulkey: who is at fault for the ongoing drama?

LSU Tigers star Angel Reese was not with the team during Friday night’s road win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions as her ongoing drama with head coach Kim Mulkey continues.  Both Reese, 21, and Mulkey, 61, have big personalities and are never afraid to express themselves, so clashing heads was to be expected. After the Tigers defeated the Lady Lions 73-50, the LSU head coach briefly addressed the drama before shutting down further questions about the situation.

“You want me to explain why? It’s very obvious Angel was not in uniform,” Mulkey said. “Angel is part of this basketball team, and we hope to see her sooner than later.”  No LSU player was made available for the postgame press conference, but some former Tigers chimed in on the drama via social media.

“I never ever ever wanted to be at odds, or cared about likes, media, nil none of those things,” Reese’s former teammate Alexis Morris tweeted on Saturday. “I just wanted to hoop. I come from a different generation of players, we did not have all this when I was in HSNIL is a plus! Media coverage is a plus in my eyes.”  “You want me to explain why? Does Angel Reese need an attitude adjustment?

Reese’s absence came after she was benched for the second half of LSU’s 30-point win over Kent State on Tuesday. Mulkey did not elaborate on her “coach’s decision.”  Glenn Guilbeau of OutKick has been covering LSU for 20 years. He reported Reese was benched in hopes of an “attitude adjustment.”

Reese started LSU’s first four games, and averaged 17 points and 10.3 rebounds to help the Tigers go 3-1 during that stretch.  Reese helped LSU clinch its first national title in women’s basketball last season and has since become one of the top-earning female college athletes.

Fame is getting to Angel Reese

It appears that fame is getting the best of Reese, who has been lauded by several NBA legends, including Shaquille O’Neal, and artists such as Cardi B.  Reese has a cousin playing in the NBA and even her mother is making headlines for fighting with the mom of LSU teammate Flau’jae Johnson on social media.

Mulkey is evidently just doing what any proper head coach would do and that is to not allow a star player to spoil the rest of the bunch.  Reese will have to adjust her attitude before returning to play because all of this season’s stats point to the fact that she hasn’t lost a step since last year’s phenomenal performances.
