A subliminal war of words between Caitlin Clark and Kim Mulkey has captured the attention of basketball fans over the past week.

See how Caitlin Clark responded to unexpected diss from Kim Mulkey

Mulkey, who led LSU and Angel Reese past Clark’s Hawkeyes in last season’s national championship game, expressed apparent disdain for Clark’s style of play while discussing the Tigers’ more well-rounded scoring as a team.  “We don’t have any players shooting 40 times a game like you see around the country,” she said in a press conference last week. “That’s not us.”

Clark lets her play do the talking

The Iowa star took the high road when asked about facing criticism, which certainly includes Mulkey’s comments.  “That’s not something I worry about,” Clark said Saturday. “The people that I really care about, the people that I really love – they always have my back. … Those are the people that are really going to matter to me.”  Her 30-point, 11-assist effort against Indiana that day improved the Hawkeyes to 17-1 on the season, while LSU picked up its second loss to unranked Auburn the next day.

Fans seized the opportunity to throw Mulkey’s comments back in her face, but until they meet again, the Tigers hold the bragging rights with a ring on their finger.
