An interviewer stunned audience members when he joked about Jennifer Lopez “getting up there” in age during a panel Sunday night.
The “On the Floor” songstress, 55, sat down with Variety’s senior awards editor, Clayton Davis, for a Q&A at the Los Angeles screening of her latest film, “Unstoppable.”
The entertainment journalist reflected on Lopez’s career and pointed out that the 30th anniversary of her breakout role as Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in the 1997 biopic “Selena” is approaching.
“You’ll be 60 by then…” he said.
Lopez softly smiled and said, “Wow!”
“…which is getting up there,” Davis jokingly added.
The “Wedding Planner” star did not appear to be bothered by the remark, as she laughed and nodded while saying, “I am.”
However, one audience member was overheard asking, “Did he really just say that?” in a video obtained by TMZ Monday.
Lopez even went so far as to reply, “It’s funny when you say that I’m ‘getting up there.’”
Davis quickly interjected and clarified that his comment was “a joke,” insisting he “would never talk to” the star like that.
But J.Lo remained unfazed as she transitioned into thanking fans for supporting her for “a long time.”
“What a journey this has been, and I honestly feel that the best is yet to come,” she shared.
Lopez explained that as she gets older, she is able to go “deeper” into who she is — both “as a person” and “as an artist.”
“These types of roles change you in a way when you allow them to, because they come to you at times in your life when you need them, and they help you grow, and they heal you in a way,” she said of “Unstoppable.”
The sports drama, which Lopez’s estranged husband, Ben Affleck, co-produced, begins streaming on Amazon Prime Video on Jan. 16.
This is the second time that Davis has interviewed the Grammy nominee in recent weeks, as she appeared on his “Awards Circuit Podcast” at the end of November.
Following Sunday’s eyebrow-raising Q&A, the journalist posted photos on Instagram raving about the experience.
“Jennifer Lopez career retrospective was a delight. Had a great time discussing some of her most iconic roles, including SELENA, OUT OF SIGHT, HUSTLERS, and her newest film, #Unstoppable,” he wrote.
