Luigi Mangione

Diddy and Luigi Mangione are being warned they could be next after a brutal gang stabbing at the prison where they are being held, experts told DailyMail.com.

The two infamous inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, are being told prisoners would jump at the chance to ‘make an example of them’, said Justin Paperny, director of the prison consultancy firm White Collar Advice.

Paperny said that high-profile inmates are usually told to ‘keep to themselves’ after incidents like the shocking stabbing of two prisoners.

Diddy and Mangione may face more lockdowns and less time out of their cell amid fears another inmate might target them next.

The stabbing was part of a series of incidents that led prosecutors to arrest 25 people including 15 inmates at the MDC, which is also home to crypto fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried.

Among those arrested was a former corrections officer who is accused of trying to smuggle contraband into the prison in January.

The most serious alleged incident happened last month when several inmates, including some who admitted drugs and racketeering crimes, brazenly stabbed another inmate in a common area of the prison.

It is not thought that Diddy or Mangione were the victims, who are only identified as ‘John Doe’ 1 and 2 in a federal indictment, as both are being held in solitary and away from the general population.

But, Paperny – who did not have any direct knowledge of an imminent threat to Diddy or Mangione – said: ‘Prisoners in isolation may have time with other inmates and that’s when they have to watch themselves, that’s when fights can happen’.

Bankman-Fried spoke to Tucker Carlson this week from the MDC where he spoke about playing chess with gang members even though he is mostly in solitary.

According to the New York Times, Bankman-Fried was placed in solitary confinement following the interview with the host. The reason for the move is unclear.

Paperny said: ‘You could have a dirty corrections officer or somebody smuggling something in. If somebody in the MDC is trying hard enough there’s always an opportunity’.

Diddy is accused of sex trafficking crimes while Mangione is there awaiting trial for murdering UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

Paperny, whose firm advises defendants about how to navigate life on the inside, told DailyMail.com: ‘It could bring more scrutiny and more lockdowns while they shakedown cells, and investigate and question people.

‘The fallout for prisoners is a more tight living environment as these investigations go on.

‘You’re not in a camp or low-security prison, you’re confined in smaller quarters.

‘In a situation with arrests and more scrutiny, it could lead to less privileges,’ said Paperny.

‘The MDC environment already is hard so with more time in isolation could compel people to get angry.

‘Even time in the library could be reduced, time on the phone, time on email, they could be scaled back if there’s a security threat.’

According to the 20-page indictment, the most disturbing incident happened on February 22 when several inmates using contraband weapons took part in a ‘gang assault and stabbing’ of at least two victims.

Chilling surveillance camera stills included in the document show prisoners chasing the victim down and stabbing him with ‘long sharp weapons’.

The assault continued while the victim was cornered under a pillar, the complaint states.

Corrections officers used pepper spray to break up the fight and seized a 13-inch-long metal rod from one inmate, which was being used as a weapon.

The victim had 18 puncture wounds to his body including three deep ones to his back and right side.

Paperny said that ‘all eyes’ are on inmates like Diddy and the Bureau of Prisons will not want any harm to happen to them after the embarrassment caused by Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial.

He said: ‘They’re isolated to begin with and it will be some time before they’re in a general population, possibly after sentencing.

‘You look at the people in this indictment, it’s scary gang stuff.

‘They’ve been in prison for murder, they could be looking to make an example of someone like Diddy,’ said Paperny, who pointed out the assailants could already be looking at spending the rest of their lives life behind bars.

Paperny said that from his experience, high-profile inmates would be told to be ‘careful about who they are associating with’ as everyone in the MDC will have an ‘agenda’.

He said: ‘Their teams will say it’s essential you keep to yourself, avoid problems.

‘Even around other prisoners mind our own business. Don’t take the bait if called out.

‘Some will admire them (Diddy and Mangione) but you will just need one person to make an example out of them.

‘Be careful what you say – you don’t have friends in there.’

The MDC has previously housed celebrity inmates including Ghislaine Maxwell, R Kelly – and even Al Sharpton – but it has a troubled history and for years there have been calls for it to be closed down.

During her time there, Maxwell’s lawyers claimed that prison guards shone a flashlight in her face every 15 minutes and that she was so malnourished her hair began to fall out.

In January 2019, the prison lost power during the coldest part of winter – a report later blamed on ‘longstanding’ issues at the facility.

The Bureau of Prisons did not return calls asking for comment.
