Travis Kelce has received a mixed review from fans online after the first trailer for his new game show ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ was released this week.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end stars as host of the game show, which premieres on Amazon Prime with three opening episodes on October 16.
It offers a fun twist on the popular ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’ series, in which contestants answered elementary school questions while being helped out by 5th Grade students in the hope of winning a $100,000 prize.
In Kelce’s edition of the show, celebrities will replace school kids on the panel and help contestants as they answer questions on a range of subjects from elementary textbooks.
Yet just over two weeks before the first three episodes air on Prime, the opening trailer for ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ has been slammed as ‘beyond cringe’ by certain fans online.
The trailer shows Kelce – who is being paid just $750,000 to host the show – laughing and joking with contestants and the panel of celebrities; which includes former NFL star Chad Ochocinco, comedian Nikki Glaser and media personality Lala Kent.
‘Travis Kelce is beyond cringe,’ one user said on X.
Another posted: ‘Travis Kelce fatigue is really setting in. Can we stop having him forced down our throats?’
‘What the hell!? Is this s**t?’ asked a third.
A fourth commented: ‘So tired of seeing this guy. He’s not likeable.’
Another put: ‘Seeing this guy everywhere isn’t fun.’
While one joked: ‘Sorry but I would rather get a root canal’.
Others, however, can’t wait to watch Kelce throw himself into some presenting.
‘I have a feeling he’s a natural at this,’ one fan posted.
Another said: ‘Fabulous can’t wait he’s going to be great’.
While one wrote: ‘He is gonna be HILARIOUS. Also Nikki Glaser being on this is SO much fun!!’
Kelce has drawn criticism in the first month of the new NFL season after initially making his worst-ever start to a campaign for the Chiefs from a statistical point of view.
Through his first three games the 34-year-old only had eight catches for 69 yards, which left many questioning whether he still had a passion for football.
However, at the weekend Kelce proved his doubters wrong by returning to his best in Kansas City’s win over the LA Chargers.
He took seven catches for 89 yards as the Chiefs picked up a 17-10 victory in LA, a return which has silenced his critics.
