Did the joke fall flat?
Fans slammed “Saturday Night Live” for making light of the “It Ends With Us” legal drama between Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Baldoni during its 50th anniversary special.
During Sunday’s episode, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler called out the “Deadpool” actor as he sat in the audience alongside Lively.
“Ryan Reynolds! How’s it going?” Fey asked him as he stood up.
“Great! Why, what have you heard?” he answered nervously as the “Gossip Girl” alum looked up to him in shock.
The joke didn’t sit well with some fans who felt the claims of sexual harassment, extortion and defamation shouldn’t be taken lightly.
“How sweet of SNL to try and do damage control for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively—but it won’t work. #SNL50,” one person tweeted.
“Gross. So they’re supporting the bullies too,” another added.
“SNL has always been sooo problematic. Highlighting the abusers while making fun of the victims. Remember when they made a skit about the Try Guys & Ned’s cheating? Yeah. Jokes at the expense of others. No integrity whatsoever,” a third user said.
“The SNL 50th was a pretentious letdown, showing how out of touch they are with everyday Americans by serving up inside jokes for Hollywood’s elite. Proof? Unfunny skits and inviting Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds, who’ve been called out for their egos, instead of poking fun at them?” another fan commented.
Other fans defended the couple’s right to have fun despite their drama with Baldoni.
“One thing about Ryan Reynolds he will always take it on the chin,” one netizen said via X.
“I like Ryan Reynolds. I thought this was funny. I don’t know all the details of the Blake Lively ‘It Ends with Us’ sitch but I blame the PR people,” another said.
“sorry but are people being wilfully obtuse about that ryan reynolds snl50 clip obviously he was joking and blake was in on the joke they don’t need attention-seeking tactics like justout flopdoni,” a third person tweeted.
“People mad over Blake and Ryan at SNL like did you expect them to stop living their lives? To cower at their home? The cancellation of them won’t work because cancel culture isn’t a thing in real life,” a fourth supporter wrote.
Page Six has reached out to reps for “SNL,” Lively, Reynolds and Baldoni but did not immediately hear back.
In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against the “Jane the Virgin” alum, alleging that he sexually harassed her on the set of their 2024 film, “It Ends With Us.”
The “A Simple Favor” actress, 37, also accused Baldoni, 41, and his publicists of orchestrating a smear campaign.
Baldoni has denied all claims made against him.
A few weeks later, the author filed a $400 million defamation and extortion lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and the actress’s publicist, Leslie Sloane.
Baldoni is also suing the New York Times in a $250 million libel lawsuit after the outlet published a story about Lively’s sexual harassment allegations. The newspaper said it will “vigorously defend against the lawsuit.”
Lively and Baldoni’s case is set for a March 2026 trial date.
