“The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been,” the Amazon founder wrote on social media
Jeff Bezos is setting the record straight.
The founder of Amazon, 60, denied rumors that he will be marrying Lauren Sánchez in a lavish ceremony close to Christmas in a social media post shared on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Bezos responded to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) that included information found in a recent The New York Post article, which cited a report from The Daily Mail, that claimed he and his fiancée, 55, were set to have a $600 million wedding in Aspen, Colo. on Saturday, Dec. 28.
As CEO of Pershing Square Bill Ackman reposted the Post article with the caption, “This is not credible. Unless you are buying each of your guests a house, you can’t spend this much money,” Bezos replied, “Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false — none of this is happening.”
The businessman continued, “The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been.”
Bezos added, “Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible.”
Bezos then called out publications who posted the false news about his nupitals, writing, “Will be interesting to see if all the outlets that ‘covered’ and re-reported on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t happen.”
PEOPLE confirmed that Bezos and Sánchez were dating in January 2019, and the couple got engaged in May 2023.
A source previously told PEOPLE that they were “on cloud nine — so happy and madly in love” after their engagement news.

“Her engagement ring is beyond stunning. And huge! She keeps playing with it and looking at it,” the insider added. “You can tell she loves it.”
Bezos shares four kids — three sons and one daughter — with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, while Sánchez shares son Nikko with ex Tony Gonzalez and kids Evan and Ella with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell.
During a November appearance on the Today show, Sánchez spoke about pulling together inspiration for her upcoming nuptials.
“I have to say, I do have a Pinterest,” she said. “I’m just like every other bride, so I do have a Pinterest board.”
