Patrick Mahomes escapes terrible blows unscathed by trainer Bobby Stroupe

Patrick Mahomes almost missed the Super Bowl due to a horrible contortion in their AFC Conference Championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens when a tackle from a Ravens’ defender left him struggling. But, thanks to his grind off the field, he managed to walk away from the encounter and is fit to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, February 11.

His trainer, Bobby Stroupe, showed a brief video of Mahomes practicing that kind of position for the event that he’s sacked in an NFL game and even got the quarterback to admit he was right on the strange stretching position.  “So I think he showed that for everybody, but that was really directed towards me because I hate doing all that stuff,” Mahomes said at a media conference. “Every time he does, I’m like, why am I doing this stretch right now and everything like that?

“And then he gets an opportunity like that, where he shows me he’s like, see, this is why we do it. So now that’ll be a staple in every workout I do. We try to prepare for everything.  “He’s done a great job of adapting and learning from stuff that I’ve done in my career and prepared me for those moments to keep myself as healthy as I possibly can.”

Mahomes praises injury-free record

Stroupe also works with George Karlaftis and other players in the Missouri franchise’s camp, but Mahomes in particular has enjoyed a good spell of availability despite QBs getting hurt easily.  He has only missed two games through injury as a starter, with one in 2019 when he dislocated his knee and a second coming in the form of an ankle sprain in 2022’s Super Bowl win.  “They always say the best ability is availability,” Mahomes added. “And you want to be out there. “We want to try to play our best football in the Super Bowl and that’s what we’re going to try to do.”
