Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford’s 14-year marriage reportedly ended after Ruth discovered he had been sharing intimate conversations with another woman.
The former This Morning co-hosts, both 65, shocked fans in May last year when they announced their split and impending divorce. While Eamonn has since moved on with dating counselor Katie Alexander, 43, Ruth has been embracing the single life, recently celebrating her birthday with a girls’ getaway.
The Shocking Discovery
According to The Sun, the turning point in their marriage came when Ruth overheard Eamonn having a cozy phone conversation with another woman, believing he was alone in their Surrey home. A source revealed:
“Eamonn thought he was in the house alone while he was chatting on the phone. But Ruth could hear him from elsewhere and was totally horrified. She confronted Eamonn. It was quite a shock – for both of them.”
The betrayal hit Ruth particularly hard, given that she had been devoted to caring for Eamonn through his physical health struggles. The situation worsened weeks later when she reportedly found more messages on his laptop, described as “a real kick in the teeth.”
The source added:
“After the phone call row, the marriage limped on for a few weeks until Ruth found the laptop messages. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
Following these discoveries, the couple issued a brief joint statement confirming their separation and ongoing divorce proceedings.
Ruth Speaks Out for the First Time
Last month, Ruth addressed the split publicly for the first time, discussing the emotional toll of their breakup after 27 years together. Speaking to woman&home, she shared:
“Relationship breakdowns are very difficult – marriage, friendship, whatever it is – but you just deal with it and move on. You can either let yourself crumble or pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.”
She also reflected on adjusting to single life:
“I’m not delighted my marriage is over, but I’ve accepted it. I’m now trying to embrace the fact that I’m single and can make choices that are just about me.”

Acknowledging the challenges of going through a highly publicized divorce, Ruth admitted:
“A divorce is difficult and painful, but most people don’t have to go through it with everyone watching, commenting, and writing about it. But that’s part of my job. If you can’t cope with that, you shouldn’t be in this industry.”
As for her future, Ruth remains open to new possibilities but isn’t rushing into anything.
“I’m fine being on my own… for now.”
