ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith publicly asked Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill if he regrets his choice to leave the Kansas City Chiefs after quarterback Patrick Mahomes led them to a third title in five years.  Hill was traded to the Dolphins in March of 2022 and signed a massive four-year, $120million contract extension.

But he has had to watch his former team win back-to-back Super Bowls in that same time span – leaving Stephen A. to wonder if the Dolphins receiver has any regrets.  ‘I know you got your bag, Tyreek Hill,’ he began on an episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show. ‘I know you got your bag, you got your money, and you deserve every single freaking penny of those dollars.  ‘But I ask you something, Tyreek Hill, with all due respect: You sure you’re happy with your decision?

‘Now, let’s clarify. I ask that question strictly for football reasons. I know it’s a hell of a lot better in South Beach than it is in Kansas City. I get that. No argument there. No state income taxes in Florida, either. I get that, too. Warmer weather. I get that, too.  ‘But I still say to you, for football reasons, playing with a quarterback, you sure you’re good with your decision to leave Patrick Mahomes? Matter of fact, we have to now start drawing a comparison.

‘I would dare say, ladies and gentlemen, this warrants a comparison between Tyreek Hill and Kevin Durant. Which one is worse? Tyreek Hill leaving Patrick Mahomes or Kevin Durant leaving Steph Curry?  ‘Because y’all saw that game winning shot he [Curry] hit Saturday night against Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns, right?  ‘Which one is worse? Which decision is worse? Tyreek Hill leaving Patrick Mahomes to join Tua Tagovailoa or Kevin Durant leaving Steph Curry to join Kyrie Irving.

‘Which one is worse? Y’all debate it, I ain’t gonna even give you my answer right now. I’m gonna hold on for it for a couple of days. I’m gonna save that subject for another day.  ‘But it’s a worthy question to ask and don’t tell me it ain’t. Because when you see what Patrick Mahomes is doing, it’s something special to behold. And we just got to call it like we see it and just be honest about it because there’s really no way around this.’

Earlier this year, Travis Kelce talked about his contract in an interview with Vanity Fair and even mentioned Hill’s situation specifically as a reason for him to stay with a team that would pay him less.  ‘My managers and agents love to tell me how underpaid I am,’ Kelce told the outlet. ‘Any time I talk about wanting more money, they’re just like, “Why don’t you go to the Chiefs and ask them?”‘  ‘When I saw Tyreek go and get 30 (million) a year, in the back of my head, I was like, man, that’s two to three times what I’m making right now.  ‘I’m like, the free market looks like fun until you go somewhere and you don’t win. I love winning. I love the situation I’m in.’
