THE victory parade for the Kansas City Chiefs’ second straight Super Bowl championship has ended in calamity. As the parade came to a close, police reported that shots had been fired near Union Station and asked fans to leave. One person has died and nine are injured following the tragic attack, Kansas City Fire Department told media outlets on Wednesday.
It comes after Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the rest of the Chiefs addressed the crowd in downtown Kansas City after their two-mile parade. Andy Reid’s side beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 to secure a dramatic overtime victory in Las Vegas.

Witnesses speak out
A parade attendee claimed to have heard a shot near a security post by the east stage. “It was someone within feet of me,” said Shawn Grew, 46, of Garden City told reporter Eric Adler, of the Kansas City Star. Sam Castro, 18, revealed that he saw people running out of Union Station, a little before 2 pm. “We just got here, so it’s kind of crazy,” he told the publication.

White house closely monitoring shooting
A White House official revealed to ABC News that the office is “closely monitoring” the shooting that took place following the Kansas City Super Bowl parade. The official added that federal law enforcement officials are on the scene to aid local officials.
Multiple ambulances arrive at hospital
Three ambulances were seen going into the Children’s Mercy Hospital’s emergency room, KMBC reports.
Five people are reportedly being brought to Truman Medical Center, KMBC’s Matt Flener reported.

KCPD spokesman speaks out
Police said multiple people were hit by bullets but have not yet confirmed if anyone was killed. “At the conclusion of the rally there were shots fired west of Union Station near the garage and several people were struck,” Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department told the Kansas City Star.
“We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims,” Becchina said. Officers have detained two armed individuals for more investigation, according to Becchina.

600 law enforcement officials were at the victory parade today. Officials responded immediately to a shooting near the Union Station parking garage which took place right after the celebration. Two armed people have been detained, KMBC reported.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins told the Associated Press that eight to 10 people were injured in the shooting on Wednesday. This is a continuing investigation and more updates are set to be released.
